Honda Bay
and Island Hopping

Honda Bay Palawan Island Hopping

Island Hopping in Honda Bay is one of the highlights of a trip to Puerto Princesa, Palawan

Honda Bay is a great mix of adventure and relaxation.  It showcases Palawan’s natural beauty and is easy to get to in Puerto Princesa.

The three islands that are most popular are Cowrie Island, Luli Island and Starfish Island.

The easiest way to see the islands is the book a tour that handles the details and logistics for you.  I recommend you check out the reviews of the tours first, to be sure they have a reputation for taking care of their guests.

Island hopping boats depart from Sta. Lourdes Wharf.  If you’re staying at Ocean Dream Villa Palawan, it usually takes less than 5 minutes to drive there.

Tours may include items for your convenience and safety such as snorkeling gear, life vests, and a buffet lunch.

Honda Bay Island Hopping - Sta. Lourdes Wharf

Cowrie Island: Known for its white sand, water activities, and relaxation areas. It is usually the main stop for lunch or lounging.

Luli Island: This island gets its name from the Filipino phrase Lulubog-Lilitaw, meaning “sinking and rising.” It’s a sandbar that disappears almost entirely during high tide.

Starfish Island: Famous for its abundance of different starfish species, which can often be seen in the shallow, clear waters.

Pambato Reef: Often included as a stop for snorkeling and viewing the rich marine life on the coral reef.

Other Honda Bay Islands and itineraries

In Honda Bay, you can often hire a boat privately and select a combination of these islands yourself, but the typical group tour is essentially a single, consolidated set tour.

Tips for Honda Bay Island Hopping:

  • Best time to do island hopping in Honda Bay is the dry season December to May
  • Peak Season is December January and February – visit  later in the dry season March and April
  • Items to Bring:
    • Sunscreen
    • Snorkel Gear if you don’t want to use a rental
    • Waterproof bag to protect your belongings

The best time to visit is during the Dry Season, from November to May, since the sky is clearer and water is calmer, especially in January and February.

Make sure you pack your sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, swimsuit, towel, a waterproof bag, and cash.  You may also choose to bring your own snorkeling gear, (as shown on my travel-must haves page) to ensure high quality and clean equipment.

There are some advantages to taking one of the tours mentioned above.  If you choose one of the tours above, they will most likely pay the various entrance and environmental fees, making your trip easier to manage.  They should also have safety equipment and may have guides onboard as well.

No matter how you see Honda Bay or which islands you go to, remember this is just one of the thrilling adventures that await you in in Puerto Princesa
